A judge in Lafayette has disqualified Brian Pope from running for the post of Lafayette City Marshal according to our news partners at KATC.

Brian Pope, who was once the Lafayette City Marshal, has now been banned from running for re-election to the post.

Two complaints were filed against Pope after he qualified in late July to seek the position that he once held. The Louisiana Board of Ethics filed one of the complaints against his candidacy because he had outstanding debts to them that had not been paid.

Pope has had legal troubles for years after failing to satisfy a public records request from the now defunct Independent paper.

Back in June of last year, Pope was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for three convictions for charges of malfeasance in office.

He was also ordered, at that time, to serve 240 hours of community service along with paying fines and restitution.

Pope was able to bond out of jail while waiting for all of his appeals to be exhausted.
