Cajuns Can’t Overcome Shooting Woes In Wyoming
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team made their way up to Laramie, Wyoming to face off against the Wyoming Cowboys where it is 7,220 feet above sea level. The Cajuns wanted to come out and start fast and they did in the first half shooting 48 % from the field but it was a tale of two halves as the Cajuns cold shooting in the second half and overtime proved to be the difference. The Wyoming Cowboys came away with the 69-61 victory in OT as the Cajuns fall to 3-2 on the year.
It was a pretty even game in the first half as both teams were scoring back and forth. The Cajuns were 6 of 10 from the free throw line in the first half while the Cowboys were 1 of 1. The Cajuns dressed out 12 guys which is the most they've had including Tirus Smith who played his first game as a Cajun.
The 2nd half was a completely different story as the Cajuns went 6 1/2 minutes without scoring a FG. The Cajuns were able to climb back in the game thanks to the Cowboys cold shooting from the -point line where they were 0 of 12. A late shot from Cedric Russell tied the game at 54 and the Cajuns defense was able to force OT.
The Cajuns were able to take the first lead in overtime thanks to a Kobe Julien jumper and a free throw from Tirus Smith but the Cowboys would hit 4 free throws and a jumper to take the lead for good as they would continue to pull away. The free throw shooting in the game for the Cajuns proved to be a big issue and the difference in the game as they finished 13 of 28 from the line.
The Cajuns will travel to Las Vegas to face off against Detroit Mercy on Monday and UC Irvine on Tuesday. Both contests will tip off at 3 PM CT with pregame coming at 2:30 PM CT.
