The recently concluded Winter Olympics of PeyongChang Korea will always hold a special place in my heart. I am a fan of the sport of Curling. It's the sport where competitors slide large rocks toward a bullseye target at the other end of a long sheet of ice. To enhance the rock's ability to slide a team of sweepers armed with high-tech brooms brush the ice to help determine its eventual direction.

Curling is not big in the United States. It is big in some of our northern states but the country as a whole appears to have a "meh" attitude about a sport that I find absolutely fascinating.

So, it was no surprise that I was the only one awake at my house at midnight on Saturday morning to watch the United States curl for the gold against Sweden. As the match was unfolding I couldn't help but think, I've seen this somewhere before. The fact is, I had.

An episode of The Simpsons featured an Olympic Curling match in which Homer and Marge defeat a team from Sweden to win the Gold Medal. That's what just unfolded in real life early Saturday morning U.S. time.

It also appears as if the program, The Simpsons, has been quite accurate in predicting a lot of things. They predicted Donald Trump in the White House, they predicted Disney purchasing parts of Fox, and they predicted the FIFA soccer scandal.

Despite the fact that we already knew from The Simpsons that U.S. Curling gold was going to be a thing. The match, the real-life match, was a lot of fun to watch. It was also very inspiring too. The U.S. was considered to be out of the running until John Shuster and crew got red hot on the frozen playing field and did what no other U.S. Curling team had ever done before.

By the way, if you didn't see THE shot of the match. Here it is.
