Yoo-Hoo chocolate beverage, ah, what a delicious and refreshing drink.

The drink was originated in New Jersey back in 1926 and is currently manufactured by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.

But did you know, it was once bottled right here in Acadiana? For 25 years, Yoo-Hoo was bottled at a plant in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Unfortunately, due to company streamlining and the fact that much of the drinks' consumers were in the northeast, the bottling plant in Opelousas closed in 2009.

It wasn't a huge employer for the area, with a max of 34 employees at its peak, but it was a cool feather in the cap for the St Landry Parish town.

Oh, did we mention those employees would spit out 12,000 cases a day?!

There are still some pretty cool things made and manufactured in the Yam Capital such as Tony Chachere's Cajun spices, Savoie's Cajun Sausages and LouAna cooking oil among others.
