Louisiana Ragin' Cajun junior shortstop DJ Sanders was named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award on Wednesday.

The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, will be handed out on May 30, prior to the start of the NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, with the Top 3 Finalists being named on May 24.

The award is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions, members of the media, and past winners.

A native of Columbus, Mississippi, Sanders joins former UL greats Lexie Elkins and Christi Orgeron as former Cajuns to be named a Top 10 Finalist.

One could make a solid argument for Sanders too, as she currently leads the nation in home runs (28) and RBI's (73), in addition to runs per game (1.42), home runs per game (0.58), RBI's per game (1.52), total bases (149) and slugging percentage (1.088).

Recently named the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Sanders excels defensively as well, committing only 6 errors all season.

A total of six pitcher made the Top 10 Finalist list, including Kelly Branhill (Florida), Jessica Burroughs (Florida St.), Mean Good (James Madison), Sara Groenewegen (Minnesota), Sydney O'Hara (Syracuse), and Danielle O'Toole (Arizona).

Four infielders are also on the list, with Meghan Gregg (Tennessee), Katiyana Mauga (Arizona), and Jessica Warren (Florida St.) joining Sanders.
