Elderly Lafayette Man Dies In Fire
Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman and investigator Alton Trahan says, via press release, that an elderly man died in a fire at Mimosa Place Apartments last night.
According to Trahan, the neighbors say lots of heavy smoke coming out of the man's apartment, and they called the fire department.
The fire was seen coming from the window of the elderly man's bedroom, and when firefighters put out the blaze, they found the man dead. Trahan says the man was found in the burning bed.
Lafayette fire investigators and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office will both be continuing to investigate this man's death. At this time, they do believe the fire started on this man's bed. His body will be sent to the coroner's office for their official finding on the cause of his death.
The fire started around 11:30 last night.
