UPDATE: 32-year-old Kriss Stoute of Morse died Wednesday morning in the fatal single-vehicle crash which happened on LA 92 south of US 90 in Acadia Parish.

State Police say 21-year-old Johnathan Patin, the driver, was heading southbound in a truck when, for unknown reasons, ran off the right side of the roadway. It was then that Troopers say the truck began to rotate counterclockwise and fell into a ditch, striking a culvert with the right side of the vehicle.

Troopers say Stoute was sitting in the front seat without a seat belt on and was ejected from the vehicle, dying of his injuries. Patin was also not wearing a seat belt but only sustained moderate injuries. State Police say five other people inside of the truck were not buckled up and suffered minor to moderate injuries. Only one passenger inside was wearing a seat belt.

Troopers say impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash and they are investigating a toxicology sample taken from Patin. Excessive speed may also have been a factor as well.

Charges on Patin are pending the completion of the investigation.
