Though he doesn't look a day over 35!

Next Wednesday, April 18th, marks the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1 on April 18th, 1938. The book was and remains a milestone almost a century later for many reasons: it was one the first comic books to contain new stories instead of reprinted newspaper strips, it introduced the superhero concept and superhero uniform to the world.

Action Comics is also the first superhero comic book to reach 1000 issues. Action Comics #1000 will be released next Wednesday and is an 80 - page anniversary issue with stories and art from some of the greatest storytellers in comic books today, including Geoff Johns (Green Lantern Rebirth), Paul Dini (Batman The Animated Series), Jim Lee (Batman HUSH), Dan Jurgens (one of the creators responsible for The Death And Return of Superman), Jose Luis Garcia - Lopez (familiar to even non - comic book readers for his merchandising art) and more.

Action Comics #1000 retails for $7.99 and will be available at Acadiana Comics & Collectibles and And Books II, both in Lafayette.
