LA & TX: Blue Bell Issues Allergy Alert for Nut Mix-Up in Ice Cream

[KNGT-FM] - Do you have a nut allergy? Are you allergic to almonds, walnuts, and pecans? Or are you not a fan of these? If you’re allergic to almonds, walnuts, and pecans, then this ice cream mix-up could affect your next scoop.

There was a mix-up at the Blue Bell ice cream factory when packaging two different flavors of ice cream. One of their popular flavors was packaged into another of their popular flavors' cartons and was mislabeled.

A recall was announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that Blue Bell is doing a voluntary recall. What had happened was that Blue Bell's ice cream flavor, Moo-llennium Crunch, a half-gallon, was packaged in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton.

The FDA released a statement saying,

Blue Bell Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream half gallon packaged in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton produced in its Brenham, Texas, plant because of undeclared almond, walnut, and pecan.

 

The recalled product was mistakenly packaged in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream cartons with a Moo-llennium Crunch lid. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, walnuts, and pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. Source: FDA

The half-gallon cartons of ice cream were distributed to retail outlets in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida Panhandle, Northwest Georgia, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Southwest Virginia.

So if you bought some Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream in any of these states, you may want to check yours before you consume it, especially if you have nut allergies.
