(Lake Charles, Louisiana) - In Lake Charles, we all know that the I-210 Bridge suffered damage back in 2020 when Hurricanes Laura and Delta rolled through Southwest Louisiana. Not only did the bridge suffer damage but the lights that were on the bridge were all destroyed.

Laura's high winds took a toll on the light poles bending them in half and breaking them like a toothpick. The damage was bad enough that all of the lights and light poles had to be removed from the bridge and the 210 bridge has sat dark since 2020.

Louisiana DOTD announced that bridge work to install new lighting would start last Thursday, March 13th, 2025. The I-210 Westbound Bridge is down to one lane during the day as crews work to install the new lights. You will also notice that new reflectors have been installed on the roadway of the bridge edging drivers over some to give crews the room to work.

Now here is the bad news. According to the DOTD, the I-210 Westbound Bridge will be closed at nighttime for at least the next few days. The bridge will be shut down starting at 9:00 pm and will not open back up to one lane until 4:00 am. This means if you need to go I-210 Westbound at night, after 9:00 pm, you will not be able to travel across it. it will be closed!

They expect to reopen the bridge at night after Thursday, March 20, 2025.

We also have learned the length of time the work on the bridge will take. According to the DOTD, the bridge work is expected to be done around September 2025, weather permitting.

So expected delays and closures for the next several months in Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana. You may want to start mapping out a new route if your travels take you over the I-210 bridge Westbound.
