Daylight saving time has been used in most of the United States since 1966. Every spring, we “spring forward,” and every fall, we “fall back.” Many people say they are tired of changing clocks twice a year and want it to end.

For now, it doesn't look like anything is changing.

Will Louisiana Stop Changing the Clocks?

Even though there has been talk across the country about ending daylight saving time, Louisiana will keep changing clocks in March and November for the foreseeable future.

Some politicians have shared opinions on the issue. After the 2024 election, President Donald Trump said he supported getting rid of daylight saving time. Later, in 2025, he said Congress should approve making daylight saving time permanent instead.

The problem is that states cannot make the change on their own.

States like Oregon, California, and Washington have said they would switch to permanent daylight saving time, but only if Congress approves it. So far, Congress has not taken action.

Because of that, Louisiana and the rest of the country must continue following the current system.

When Do We Spring Forward in Louisiana?

Daylight saving time will begin at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Most phones, tablets, and smart TVs will change automatically. However, older clocks, watches, and appliances will need to be moved forward one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
