Louisiana Nursing School Ranked No. 1 in U.S. Again
(KNGT-FM) - A nursing school in Louisiana is getting national attention again, and a local hospital is helping make it happen.
It always feels like, with every national list ranking specific items within each state, Louisiana typically ranks dead last. Well, this one is actually some good news...
Let's be honest, in Louisiana, you know what you're gonna get... It's going to be hot and humid, but we're going to have a ton of fun while doing it, and you know we're going to eat well.
Our colleges have been garnering some pretty significant honors over the last year. In September, McNeese was named as one of the top southern universities in 2025.
Southern University School of Nursing Named Top in U.S.
For the second year in a row, the Southern University School of Nursing has been named the best nursing school in the United States by Nurse.org. The group gives out its “Best of Nursing” awards each year.
The nursing program at Southern University is also celebrating a big milestone. This year marks 40 years since the program first started.

The school is also growing. A new 69,000-square-foot building is being built to help train future nurses. The project is being funded in part by Our Lady of the Lake and Women’s Hospital, which each donated $5 million. The state is expected to match those donations.
Southern University beat out several other schools to win the award again, including Capella University, Chamberlain University College of Nursing, Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Lunder CareForce Institute.
