If you grew up in Southwest Louisiana, then you have a few options when it comes to going skating. In Lake Charles, you would head to Skate City or McBride's roller rink in the '80s and '90s. In Moss Bluff, you went to Wheelers, and in Sulphur, you would go to LaFluer Roller Rink off Ruth Street.

As I sit here and write this, I start thinking about when I would go to Skate City during my teenage years, which was in the mid-80s. I still remember black boot skates with my highlighter-yellow and white Zinger wheels, and carrying them with me to the roller rink, like I was the man.

Katie Harrington with the City of Lake Charles said,

The City of Lake Charles gears up for the return of Skatember. Four themed evenings are planned throughout September. Each event, except for the first, will take place inside the Lake Charles Event Center Coliseum (900 Lakeshore Drive).
Admission is $5 for the Sept. 5, 9, and 23 events. Attendees aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The Outdoor Family Night on Sept. 5 features free admission and will be held on the Gill Street extension, located on the Lake Charles Event Center grounds adjacent to Millennium Park.
Each week will be a different themed night, from Country and Western to R&B night, a glow party, and Back to the '80s nights. So get ready for a fun night out with the family in September 2025 in Lake Charles.
