SOWELA Named Louisiana’s Top Community College for 9th Straight Year

Lake Charles, Louisiana - It was another spectacular year for SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles. SOWELA continues to be recognized as one of the top schools in the state. For the ninth year in a row, SOWELA has been one of the top community colleges in the Country, and the best in the State of Louisiana.

SOWELA serves thousands of students each year. The college has a total enrollment of nearly 3,000 students and offers programs designed to help students enter high-demand careers. Students can earn degrees and certificates in more than 25 different areas. Some of the most popular programs include Industrial Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Electrician training, and Manufacturing-related programs.

Niche.com reports that about 47% of SOWELA students graduate, with many going on to start careers in high-demand fields.

SOWELA Ranked As #1 Community College in Louisiana by WalletHub

For the ninth year in a row, SOWELA has been ranked the #1 community college in Louisiana by WalletHub. The ranking highlights the college’s success in helping students find affordable education, build careers, and prepare for the workforce. WalletHub’s rankings look at things like cost, student success, and career opportunities after graduation.

Per an article from KPLC-TV, SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall said the recognition shows the hard work happening across the college.

“The distinction of being rated the #1 community college in Louisiana for nine straight years is something the College has worked hard to achieve,” Aspinwall said. “I am extremely proud of the reputation SOWELA has created as a strong workforce provider for our business and industry partners and an economic engine for the SWLA region.”
