The bad news is that the schedule is now calling for additional ramp closures that could throw a wrench into your daily commute.

In a notice late yesterday, Wednesday, May 28, from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we see that all motorists have been given the long-awaited news that the I-20 westbound exit ramp at the LA 72 (Old Minden Road) interchange is now officially back open to traffic.

That same notice advises motorists that the I-20 westbound entrance ramp re-opening will soon follow, weather permitting.

The opening of the Old Minden Road ramps will allow the contractor to proceed with additional construction work at adjacent interchanges.

Considering this progression, weather permitting, beginning tonight, Thursday, May 29, the I-20 westbound entrance ramps from US 71 (Barksdale Boulevard) and LA 3 (Benton Road) will be closed for full removal and reconstruction.

Please note that access to Barksdale Boulevard southbound (right lane) from this entrance ramp will be maintained during this closure. I-20 westbound access will be closed.

Additionally, in the coming days, the I-20 westbound entrance and exit ramps at the LA 782-2 (Industrial Drive) interchange will be reopened.  An exact date for that opening will be announced soon.

Once the Industrial Drive interchange is fully reopened, the contractor will then proceed with closing the westbound entrance and exit ramps at the LA 3105 (Airline Drive) interchange.

An exact date for that closure will be announced soon. The eastbound ramps were previously closed, with the old pavement and roadway base currently undergoing demolition.

Meanwhile, major concrete paving operations on the outside travel lanes, drainage and dirt work, and other related construction activities continue to make strides.

The project remains on track to wrap up in late 2025/early 2026, weather and other factors permitting.
