Owning and carrying a gun in Texas is common practice. It is our right in this country, and it’s celebrated here in the Lone Star State although there are some places like airports that you should probably not have your firearm with you. 

According to new numbers released by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents seized 6,678 firearms in 2024 from passengers at airport security checkpoints across the country. 

This is a slight drop from 2023 in which 6,737 firearms were seized. 

Two of Three Top Airports with Guns Confiscated Are in Texas 

We all know by know that you’re not allowed to bring a firearm on a plane. Sure, you can have it in a gun safe and check it thought the airline company, but that is it.  

And two out of the three top airports with the most firearms confiscated are in Texas.

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport had a total of 390 guns seized, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport reported 272 guns seized.  

The only airport that reported more guns being seized was the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with 440 guns that were taken by TSA agents.

In 2024, 94% of all firearms that were seized were loaded at the time.  

If you’re caught with a firearm at a TSA checkpoint you could face a $14,950 fine, have your TSA Precheck privileges revoked, and could be arrested by local law enforcement. 

Make sure you check your bags twice to make sure you don’t have a firearm before going to catch your next flight.
