Is Texas a Bad Place for Working Moms? Shocking Findings from New Research
Texas is a terrible place for working moms.
Texas Tanks Working Mom Survey
It's hard out there. Not just for working moms, but for everybody. Prices are up and there appears to be no end in site. Working moms have additional challenges on top of those prices adding to an already heavy load. My heart really goes out to women who are trying to both support and care for their kids, when women already earn 83 cents on the dollar compared to men.
Texas Women Have It Rough
WalletHub's latest survey show that women in Texas have it even worst than most working women in America. Texas came in 41st place on a "Best States For Working Women" survey, which equates to being one of the ten worst. This is terrible news for women trying to make a go of it in the Lone Star State.
The Struggles of Working Women in Texas
The survey had three main categories, "Child Care", "Professional Opportunities", and "Work-Life Balance Rank". In each of those categories there were several metrics. For instance "Work-Life Balance Rank" featured "Parental Leave", "Average Length Of A Work Week" and "Commute Time". Again, WalletHub is very thorough and their results are impeccable.
Where Does Texas Excel?
Texas is far overdue to come out on top of one of these surveys but I'm not sure what we could lead the pack in. Having a moment and thinking about the size of Texas, I thought, "I bet we have the cheapest rent" and even that was a fail. I even looked up "States With The Highest Gun Ownership" (which is a tad controversial) and we were middle of the packers even on that. So what does Texas lead in? Well, I did find one mention of Texas as having "The Best Barbeque In The U.S." so at least we win at that.
