After over a century and a half, Macy's is closing its doors in Louisiana and Southeast Texas. It's the end of an era for our local shopping scene. Sad to see the iconic Macy's stores in Louisiana and nearby Texas shutting down. Time to cherish those final shopping trips. Speaking of which, if you live near a Macy's, stop and shop if you want to.

"Macy's closures in Louisiana and Southeast Texas mark a significant shift in our retail landscape. Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc.

In February 2024, Macy's announced it was closing 150 underperforming stores by 2026, shrinking its footprint to about 350 locations when the plan is finished. The 66 store closings revealed Thursday are included in that multiyear initiative. Shockingly, this includes the closure of the legendary flagship store on 6th Avenue which opened on October 28, 1858. The loss of that store is not only is not only devastating, but will also mark the end to the iconic Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
