7 WAYS SKATING CAN IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
Who says fitness can’t be fun? Skating burns calories, boosts your mood, and it’s just plain cool. Health.com released a report last year on the benefits of Roller skating. It’s not just a nostalgic blast from the past—it’s a total-body workout that’s fun, social, and packed with health benefits. Whether you're skating for fitness, fun, or fresh air, lacing up your skates is a smart (and smooth) move for your body and mind.
1. It’s a Heart-Healthy Cardio Workout
Skating gets your heart pumping just as much as jogging or biking. According to the American Heart Association, it strengthens your heart, boosts circulation, and lowers the risk of heart disease.
Heart-Healthy Perks:
✔ Burns 300–600 calories per hour
✔ Improves endurance and lung capacity
✔ Helps manage blood pressure and cholesterol
2. Builds Strength and Endurance
Roller skating works your legs, glutes, core, and arms for balance and momentum. Studies show it's a true full-body workout.
Muscles in Motion:
Legs & Glutes – Power every stride
Core – Engaged for balance and posture
Joint Support – Strengthens muscles around joints, reducing injury risk
3. Easy on the Joints
Unlike running, skating is low-impact, meaning less stress on your knees, hips, and ankles. The smooth gliding motion is ideal for anyone with joint pain or arthritis.
Why It’s Joint-Friendly:
✔ 50% less impact than running
✔ Safe for all ages
✔ Easier on the knees, hips, and ankles
4. Boosts Balance and Coordination
Skating challenges your body to stay upright and move smoothly, strengthening your core and improving coordination. It also sharpens your body’s natural balance system—proprioception.
Balance Benefits:
✔ Improves motor skills
✔ Reduces fall risk
✔ Builds core stability
5. Great for Mental Health
Feeling stressed? Skating is a major mood booster. Like other forms of aerobic exercise, it releases endorphins—your brain’s natural stress relievers.
Mental Perks:
✔ Reduces anxiety and depression
✔ Enhances focus and mood
✔ Builds self-confidence
6. Helps Burn Calories & Manage Weight
Skating is fun cardio that sneaks in calorie burn without feeling like a workout. Depending on your speed, you can torch 300–600 calories an hour!
Calorie Facts:
✔ 260+ calories in 30 minutes of moderate skating
✔ Up to 570 calories per hour at a vigorous pace
✔ Great for weight control and fitness goals
7. Encourages Social Connection
Skating is more fun with friends! Whether at an event, park, or pop-up rink, it's a perfect way to connect, stay active, and build community.
Social Skating Benefits:
✔ Makes fitness more fun
✔ Great for group workouts and family outings
✔ Builds friendships across all ages
Want to feel stronger, lighter, happier, and more connected to your community? Grab your skates, hit the floor, and let the good times roll.
