When putting together the weekly felony arrests in Lufkin, I am always interested in patterns and trends. Over the past few months, I have noticed a considerable uptick in criminals being taken off the streets by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

They are mainly on the roads to enforce traffic laws, but once they initiate a traffic stop, anything could and will happen. The Texas DPS also investigates crimes across all 254 counties in Texas.

DPS officers in the Lufkin area work out of our local Lufkin DPS office, where you would go to get your driver's license. They stay busy in Angelina County with drug arrests.

DPS Angelina County Is Highly Active In Lufkin

Though the DPS as a whole is composed of many different divisions, each with specific duties, here in Lufkin, they seem to be running the roads and keeping criminals off the streets more than ever.

For the 21 felony arrests still in jail today, made between July 7th and July 13th, DPS Angelina County had three arrests. That might not seem like many compared to the Lufkin Police Department or the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, but it is considerably more than in the past.

They have been consistently putting up numbers, and I see DPS patrol cars in the Angelina County area more than ever before. They do a lot to support our local law enforcement, and they all work together to keep us safe.
