How a Shreveport Grandmother’s Plea Brought a Child’s Toy Truck Home
SHREVEPORT, LA - I got so emotional when I heard about this story from the Spring Lake neighborhood in Shreveport. I saw a heartfelt plea from a grandmother who made a mistake and she needed help.
Here's what happened. Allison Montgomery (Gigi) was spending time with her 2 1/2 year old grandson at her home in Spring Lake. She was outside with him while he was riding on his battery powered pickup truck. They got a few houses down the street and the battery on the truck died. Well Gigi and her grandson walked back to her home to get a car to come retrieve the pickup. But the problem was she left the truck near a garbage can on the street in front of her neighbors home.
Someone obviously thought the pickup was trash and snagged it. A neighbor did see someone in a white SUV pickup the truck. By the time Gigi drove down the street to retrieve the pick up, it was gone.
Well she put a picture up on the Spring Lake Facebook page and this amazing story has quite an ending.

Gigi tells KEEL News "a Pop Pop was taking his granddaughter home and saw the pickup and thought it was trash. He stopped and picked it up for her to enjoy." But the man's daughter saw Gigi's post on Facebook and let him know the story. He felt terrible about picking it up and returned it to the spot where he found it. Gigi says she picked it up on her way home from dropping off her grandson back with his parents.
She says her little one will now be thrilled he to take his truck to “the farm” next time he’s visiting us in Spring Lake!!
But this story also shows what a great city we live in. Neighbors stepped in to offer support. One even offered Gigi "a battery powered convertible that is practically brand new."
Stories like this just don't happen in big metro cities. This truck would be long gone and never would be seen again. That's why it's great to live in a community like ours.
