SHREVEPORT, LA - Freezing conditions this week in north Louisiana have folks bracing for a possible ice storm late Thursday or early Friday morning.

Our area faces some unusual conditions right now in light of the construction going on in Bossier City on I-20. All 18-wheelers are being rerouted onto I-220 and that brings them over the Cross Lake Bridge.

Usually the Cross Lake Bridge is the first to be closed during an ice storm. But highway crews will work extra time to keep the bridge open since this is now the primary route for truckers. Shreveport CAO Tom Dark tells us the city will step in to help DOTD keep the Cross Lake Bridge and I-220 open. He says that will be a top priority.

DOTD posts a list of all road and bridge trouble spots and you find that full list by clicking here.

Dark says the city helped keep the bridge open during a similar storm last year and he's confidant they can do it again this year, if necessary.

The Weather Channel is reporting sleet and freezing rain will be arriving in the Shreveport Bossier area Thursday afternoon and the temps will dip into the 20's into Friday morning.
