The Critical Need for Seatbelts

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Shreveport Police Department will hold a seatbelt checkpoint in the city's eastern region. This initiative isn't just about issuing tickets; it's a vital effort to save lives and prevent devastating injuries on our roadways. Far too many fatalities and serious injuries in traffic crashes are a direct result of individuals not being properly restrained.

When you buckle up, you dramatically increase your chances of surviving a collision and significantly reduce the severity of potential injuries. It's the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and your passengers every time you get into a vehicle.

Ensuring Your Safety on the Road

While the primary focus of this checkpoint is to enforce Louisiana's occupant protection laws, officers will also address other traffic violations as needed. This comprehensive approach underscores the commitment of the Shreveport Police Department to overall road safety.

This operation is funded by a highway safety grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and will adhere to the Louisiana State Police Roadside Safety Checkpoint Manual, ensuring it's conducted safely and effectively. The ultimate goal is to foster a culture of safety where seatbelt usage is second nature for all motorists. The Shreveport Police Department urges everyone to do their part: always wear your seatbelt and drive responsibly.
