We Asked ChatGPT What Is The Highest City In Louisiana. Here’s What We Got.
Sometimes when you're using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) language model or resource program, you have to be very specific. Even though we all have the idea of Terminator in the back of our minds with AI, we're still in the 'baby steps' phase of the computers' eventual takeover.
So when you think you're asking it a clever question, you have to be prepared for a totally different, yet completely correct, answer.
What We Asked ChatGPT
We asked ChatGPT what "The highest city in Louisiana" is, thinking we could make a joke about the the 4/20 date. There was some assumption that the AI model would track statistics on medical marijuana cards, or dispensaries, or something along those lines. Maybe even some anecdotal information.
The thought was we'd get an answer like Shreveport, or Ruston, maybe New Orleans.
But we got nothing even close. It actually took a second to understand what just happened.
ChatGPT Took Us Too Literal
Because its AI, and not a human, it took this question literally, and gave us the highest elevation in the state.
So yes, we got the "highest" city in the state, but not in the way we were thinking. Instead of using "highest" in the way we intended, it used the term in the logical way for the computer, and gave us the answer it thought we wanted.
What City Has The Highest Elevation In Louisiana?
Since we're already here, the answer is Arcadia in Bienville Parish. The resource that ChatGPT relied on said the elevation of the city is 384 feet above sea level. For a frame of reference, the elevation of Dallas, Texas is 482 feet above sea level, and Oklahoma City's elevation is 1,299 feet above sea level. New Orleans elevation is just 6.562 feet above sea level (not the whole city, some sources say parts of the city are actually 8 feet BELOW sea level).
At the end of the day, we got the right answer from ChatGPT, just not the funny one we were expecting. So let this be a lesson, make sure you know exactly what you're asking AI, otherwise you don't know what you're getting back.
