Mail May Soon Arrive Faster for Shreveport Locals
The United States Postal Service has announced some major changes that could change mail delivery in Shreveport both for the better and worse. Major changes coming to the USPS could mean some of Shreveport's mail could be way faster, while others may end up experiencing shipping delays.
Even though the USPS has seen a steady decline in retail customers since 2015, losing over 254 million retail customers in that time, over 666 million retail customers still use the services provided by their tax dollars in the form of the USPS. It's no different in Shreveport, with nine USPS offices spread across the city.
About 19,500 Shreveport USPS customers are about to see their first-class mail ship a lot faster. While there is an improvement coming for a lot of people, there may be drawbacks for a few.
The USPS said that new improvements are underway that are expected to save $36 billion, speed up mail for a few, slow down mail for a few, and most, they won't notice a thing. Shreveport can expect to see its mail slowly start to get faster thanks to these cost-saving techniques.
The Postal Service explained that new savings will result in no changes at all in the delivery time of 75% of first-class mail, but just 11% of first-class mail will be delayed. The last 14% of America will see their first-class mail shipped at a faster rate.
As a result of these changes, the USPS is expecting to save $36 billion over the next 10 years thanks to cuts in transportation, facility improvements, and processing.
Another major change will cause much faster times, but right now, it's not known which areas will get this change. Packages sent in these unnamed regions may be shipped in only 2 to 3 days.
