Two Former LSU Tigers Playing In This Weekend’s MLB Futures Game
There are going to be plenty of LSU Tigers taking part in this year's MLB All Star festivities. But not just in the All Star game itself.
While the main event, the MLB All Star Game, will feature two LSU Tigers, it won't just be that game with some Louisiana flavor. Because the annual MLB Futures Games will also include a couple of former Tigers. Meaning you will get a chance to see two All Star games with Tigers this weekend.
What Is The MLB All Star Futures Game?
The MLB All Star Futures Game is an annual exhibition game that features top prospects from across baseball farm systems. Its a great chance for fans to see some of their team's best prospects on a big stage.
The All Star Game will feature Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes, who won a National Championship with the Tigers, and will also have Alex Bregman from the Boston Red Sox. Bregman was an LSU Tiger from 2013 to 2015, before he was selected with the #2 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.
LSU Legends Skenes and Bregman Heading To All Star Game
Bregman was a big time prospect for the Houston Astros, and was selected to play in the 2016 MLB All Star Futures Game. But Paul Skenes was actually never picked to play in the game...and no one should be upset about that. Because in Skenes first full season of professional baseball, he was selected to be an MLB All Star, and actually started the All Star Game. So don't be upset about that.
This year, there will be a pitcher and infielder both representing the LSU Tigers in the Futures Game. Interestingly, they both play for the same MLB organization...and on the same minor league team.
A Pair Of Former LSU Stars Getting A Shot In The 2025 Futures Game
The two players are pitcher Gage Jump, and infielder Tommy White. Both are in the Oakland Athletics organization, and both are playing for the Lansing Lugnuts.
Jump has jumped into the top 70 prospects in all of baseball this year. From the start of the year to the All Star break, Gage Jump went from the 98th overall prospect to the 68th overall. His production this season has got a lot of attention, which is why he's earned this Futures Game selection.
Tommy White is having a bit of a bounce back year this year, which has plenty of baseball fans excited. Last year, in his first taste of pro baseball, White appeared to struggle. Hitting just .224 in 25 games of A ball, with 2 home runs. This year, White is hitting .276 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs in 54 games. Good enough to get the attention of the Futures Game.
Its going to be an exciting weekend of baseball for LSU fans.
