Another restaurant has closed in Lubbock.

It is still early in 2025 and Lubbock has already seen its share of restaurants closing for good. Over the the weekend another staple of Lubbock closed its doors without much fanfare.

On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina has been in Lubbock for a long time, but this past Saturday, the long time favorite decided to close its doors for good. On the Border was located at 6709 Slide Road and the closing caught many people, including guests by surprise.

A call to the store Saturday afternoon was answered by the manager who said that the restaurant was now permanently closed in Lubbock. By Sunday morning a U-Haul truck was seen outside the restaurant.

The closing of On The Border comes a month after Pei Wei, another long-running restaurant in Lubbock abruptly closed its doors after 18 years. On the Border has been around even longer than that.

On The Border joins Pei Wei, Sprinkles Cupcakes, and Costa Vida as chain restaurants that have closed so far in Lubbock in 2025.

On The Border closed another location in Texas at the beginning of the year in Plano. On The Border opened its first location in Dallas back in 1982 and there are currently more than 100 locations across the globe still operating.

Lubbock still has plenty of choices when it comes to Mexican and Tex-Mex food.
