Louisiana Parents Reminded to Check Kids Bags For Spring Break
(KTDY) - Many kids in Acadiana are out of school for their eater or Spring Break, and I have a friendly reminder for parents now that their kids are home for the next several days.
When kids are dismissed from school at the start of break, they are often so excited for the days off that they neglect a few simple things. Look, we were all kids, and we remember what it felt like not to have school for a week. You threw the school bags down and forgot about them while off.
Well, that happened here at my house. I found my daughter's school bag and lunch box in my vehicle a few days after she was dismissed for the break, and I am glad I did.
Not only did I not want it to stay in my vehicle for the entire Easter break, but I certainly did not want what was in it to remain for several days.
As I was removing her school bag from my vehicle, I noticed she had left her lunch box/bag in the vehicle as well, and it was heavier than usual. Well, when I got into the house, I opened her lunch box and found she had not eaten much on her final day of school. Perhaps the excitement for their Easter egg hunt had something to do with that, I don't know.
While the small treats and chips didn't bother me, what was in the container did. My daughter had not eaten the spaghetti o's we prepped for her, and had I not noticed it, this could have been a stinky mess a week later.
So yes, I am taking the time now to remind you, Mom and Dad, to clean out your child's lunch box if they bring their food to school each and every day. You certainly don't want anything "marinating" in it while on break.

In addition, you should look into their school bags, as teachers are sending important papers home as we approach the end of another school year. Don't get caught off guard while your child's school bag lies on the bedroom floor for a week.
I hope you and your kids have a great Easter/Spring Break. Oh, if you have friends with small kids, you may want to share this friendly reminder with them, too. They may be very thankful.
