(Vermilion Parish) - A mother in Vermilion Parish shared a story that has grabbed the hearts of so many in Acadiana after her daughter texted the Sheriff's Department, and they responded to her residence

Amy Luquette Fredrick shared on Facebook that on Mother's Day, she and her daughter had plans to visit her mom, Roo's grandmother, but when they didn't get a response, the young girl wasn't having it.

Roo, who is an autistic child, ended up texting the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Department when she was told that they weren't going to visit her grandmother and that it was time to exit her mom's vehicle upon returning home

You see, Roo was taught that when there's trouble or something is wrong, she should text the police for help, and she did. Amy says she had no idea her daughter had texted the Sheriff's Dept. until a deputy arrived and explained the text they received.

Amy explained her daughter's situation to Deputy D’Angelo, and he understood because he, too, has a family member who is autistic. Roo's mom invited the deputy into her house to reassure him that her daughter was fine, and once he confirmed everything, the fun started.

Deputy D'Angelo allowed Roo to sit in his patrol unit and even allowed this precious little girl to wear his protective vest. By the looks of it, she seemed to really enjoy this "call," but it won't happen again, as Amy says that she's removed the text apps from her phone.

Safety Tip Parents Should Teach Kids About Police

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office shared the deputy's response and Amy's story on their official Facebook page, and they reminded parents that it's important to remind kids that law enforcement officers are there for them when they are in need or feel afraid.

This story is so good on several levels, as a kid did what she was taught to do when in need, and a responding officer understood the situation and made the most of it. I am certain that this is one Mother's Day visit Amy willl never forget.
