Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (82) announced from the House floor on Thursday she will no longer be a part of the Democratic leadership. Pelosi has spent two decades at the top of the Democratic leadership in Washington.

Pelosi's party lost the House majority and her husband Paul Pelosi was recently attacked at their home which both played a role in her decision.

After Pelosi's announcement, Representative Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, considered the No. 2 Democrat and Pelosi's obvious replacement, stated he would not be seeking a leadership position in the next Congress.

Pelosi mentioned she enjoyed working with former Presidents Bush, Obama and Biden. She called former President Donald Trump's candidacy for re-election not a "force for good for our country".
