(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Summer is here, and the temperature and humidity are on the rise in South Louisiana.

You don't have to do extensive research to realize that the summer months in South Louisiana can be brutal, and if there's anything you want to invest in for your house, it is a reliable HVAC system.

If you've ever been without AC during the summer, you know just how miserable it can be, and that is why so many people have admitted to us that when the AC is running well, they crank it down.

Now, before we get to what some in Acadiana have admitted to setting their thermostats to at night during the summer months, let's take a look at what experts say about setting your thermostat.

What to Set Home Thermostat to During Summer

According to Trane, your air conditioner needs to run enough to lower the temperature in your house to where you are comfortable, and to remove humidity from the dwelling

You've heard many suggest setting the temperature in your house to 78 degrees, and while many in Louisiana laugh at that idea, Trane suggests setting it to where you are comfortable and then increasing it by one or two degrees to see if you notice a difference.

Smart thermostats in your home can help save energy, and they are great for adjusting while you are away.

Proper Maintenance on AC Unit

To ensure your AC unit performs at its best during sweltering summer days, you need to maintain it. Trane recommends changing your air filter every 30-90 days. And if you have pets inside, you should really monitor your air filter's condition.

Do not block your return air vents with furniture; this could really put a strain on your AC unit. Lastly, make sure your outdoor unit remains clean, and that bushes and shrubs do not impede airflow.
