A home inspector recently got the shock of his life while in the attic of a home when he came face to face with an 8-foot alligator. That's right, an alligator was living in the attic of the house.

Alligator Found In Attic

You never know what you might find living in the attic of your house. Rats, raccoons, bats, snakes, squirrels, and birds are all common animals you might encounter when going into your attic.

Apparently, now we need to add alligators to the list of things you might find living in your attic.

North Carolina housing inspector Dean Brown was conducting a fairly routine home inspection on a newly built 3-story home last week, and everything seemed to be checking out just fine.

After inspecting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the home, Brown went into the attic to make sure everything was tip-top and up to code.

As Brown was making his way through the attic, he noticed something that he initially believed to be some sort of large stuffed animal.

Pretty strange to find something like that in the attic of a brand new home that no one has lived in yet, but Brown continued with his inspection, not paying it too much attention at first.

Then Brown noticed the stuffed animal in the attic with him was...breathing.

Brown told fox35orlando.com -

"'I thought it was a stuffed animal that someone threw up there as a joke. So I just went about my inspection'.

That's when he noticed the 'stuffed animal' was breathing. It turned out to be an 8-foot alligator!"

He was only about 2 feet away from the head of the alligator when something happened that let Brown know what he was looking at was alive.

It blinked.

Brown immediately left the attic and told the construction crew working on the home to get the alligator out of the attic, but they all just laughed thinking he was obviously joking.

He wasn't.

Animal control was called and the alligator was safely removed from the attic of the home.

It's not known just how long the gator was living in the attic or how it wound up there.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
