There was once a time when Pizza Hut was king, but times have changed, and the parent company of Pizza Hut, Yum! Brand has announced that approximately 250 of its iconic pizzerias will be closing in 2026. The reason for the closure? It's declining sales.
For such a simple product, a pizza is basically bread, cheese, and sauce, the pizza business is tough. It has become increasingly difficult to make a living selling it. It's not that people don't still love pizza; it's just that there are more and more people making pizza. And in an area where pizza was once king, delivery, the competition has exploded.

Why Is Pizza Hut Closing So Many Locations Across the Country?
You probably recall when your only option for home-delivered food was a pizza. In most cases, that pizza came from Pizza Hut, Papa John's, or Domino's. Now, thanks to online food delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats, consumers have so much more than pizza to choose from.
And to be honest, many of the franchise locations for all of those brands have spent the past few decades leaning into making delivery their bread and butter. When is the last time you went into a Pizza Hut, Domino's, or Papa John's and actually sat down to eat?

The company was once a part of Pepsico but was spun off in 1997. Across the glove Yum! Brand operates some 19,974 locations of Pizza Hut. That number is actually down from franchise numbers in 2024.
