Another nasty round of bad weather barreled through southeast Texas into Louisiana last night.

As a result, there have been reports of damage across the region and several thousand homes are without power. (At 5:30 am, there were over 160,000 homes without electricity across the state of Louisiana.)

While most area schools are open today (Friday, May 17), we do know of several schools/school systems in south Louisiana that are closed today.

We will update this list if and when schools notify us of any further closures.


Acadia Parish:

  • Church Point Elementary
  • Church Point High

Allen Parish:

  • All Public Schools

Ascension Head Start in Donaldsonville

Calcasieu Parish:

  • Molo Middle School

East Beauregard Elementary and High School

East Baton Rouge Parish:

  • Audobon Elementary
  • Forest Heights Elementary
  • McKinley Middle
  • Sherwood Middle
  • Baton Rouge Magnet High
  • Park Elementary
  • Glen Oaks Park Elementary

East Feliciana Parish:

  • All Public Schools due to downed trees on highways
  • Slaughter Charter

Evangeline Parish:

  • All Public Schools

Iberville Parish:

  • Crescent Elementary

Lafayette Parish:

  • Carencro High School - LPSS Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. has informed us that the school will be closed today due to a lack of electricity. Graduation will still take place for the school, which is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the Cajundome.

St. John Parish:

  • All schools will be virtual on Friday.

St. Landry Parish:
