Walmart Sending Refund Checks To Louisiana Customers After FTC Settlement
(KMDL-FM) Walmart has been quietly sending refund checks to customers in Louisiana and across the nation. Many of you could have a refund check sitting in your mailbox at some point in the future. The refunds are part of a settlement made between the giant retailer and the Federal Trade Commission.
The refund checks are part of a $9.8 million settlement that is being sent to some 65,000 Walmart customers (average of $150 per check). The suit alleges those customers were scammed because of Walmart's failure to implement proper anti-fraud policies and procedures.

In-Store Money Transfers at Walmart are the Source of the Suit
The suit that was brought against Walmart suggested that the store did not provide proper training to store employees to comply with current laws and to work to protect consumers. One of the most prolific scammer tactics is to coerce the victim into going into an establishment, such as a Walmart store, to purchase gift cards or electronic money transfer cards.
Many retailers now post signs near the gift cards and electronic money cards that warn of scammer tactics. The reason scammers like using this method is that once the money has been placed on a card or sent electronically, there is no way for it to be retrieved.

The FTC lawsuit suggests that Walmart did not provide enough protection for consumers in this regard. It is unclear exactly what the amount of each refund check will be. But if you completed a money transfer at a Walmart location between January 2015 and December of 2024, you are, according to the settlement, entitled to compensation.
How Much Will Each Walmart Refund Check Be Worth?

In researching details of the settlement, it was noted that individuals who do receive a check should cash or deposit that check within 90 days of receipt.
