Fireworks Safety
1. Keep a Safe Distance: Detonate fireworks at least 200 feet away from structures, vehicles, and rubbish.
2. Supervise Children: Never allow children to light fireworks. Adults should always supervise fireworks activities.
3. Avoid Impairment: Never operate fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
4. Prepare for Emergencies: Light fireworks one at a time and keep a bucket of water or hose nearby to monitor embers.
5. Dispose of Fireworks Safely: Wet down used fireworks to prevent reignition and avoid immediate disposal in trash containers.
6. Follow Instructions: Always read and follow the label directions carefully before igniting fireworks.
7. Use Hard Surfaces: Place fireworks on a hard, smooth surface before lighting.
8. Avoid Hand-Held Ignition: Never light fireworks in your hand and move away quickly after ignition.
9. Mind Your Aim: Never point or throw fireworks at people, pets, cars, or buildings.
10. Know the Law: Fireworks are illegal within Lafayette city limits. In unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish, fireworks may be set off from June 25 through July 5, between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and until 1:00 a.m. on July 5. Minors under 18 are not permitted to possess, handle, or purchase fireworks.

3. Dean Domingues Compost Facility: The compost facility will be closed on the Fourth of July and will reopen on Friday, July 5, 2024.
