A major crash on I-10 brought eastbound traffic to a standstill near the Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge on Thursday morning.

According to DOTD, the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. just before LA 415 (Lobdell).

A report from WBRZ said that at least one person involved in the wreck was trapped inside a truck.

The victim was pinned at his legs inside his pickup truck for at least half an hour, until emergency workers were able to free him.

The man was said to be conscious as first responders removed him as a helicopter on standby was able to airlift him to a local hospital.

WBRZ says the trucker involved was ticketed for the incident.

The victim ran into the back of an 18-wheeler as it was trying to merge back onto the interstate from the shoulder. The trucker involved in the crash was ticketed for improper lane usage, authorities said.

While all lanes have been reopened, traffic is reportedly at a crawl between Gross Tete and the Lobdell Exit (LA 415).
