15-Year-Old Released After Arrest In Lafayette Teen Homicide Investigation

Just hours after announcing an arrest in the homicide of 15-year-old Samuel Miley, Lafayette Police have issued a significant update to the investigation.

According to investigators, detectives determined the 15-year-old juvenile arrested earlier Monday was not criminally involved in the shooting. As a result, the arrest warrant was recalled, and the juvenile was released from police custody.

Lafayette Police have announced an arrest in the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 15-year-old Samuel Miley late last week.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, a 15-year-old Lafayette male was arrested on Monday, August 3, in connection with the homicide investigation. Because the suspect is a juvenile, police have not released his name.

The teen was booked into the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center on one count of Second Degree Murder.

Arrest Comes Days After Deadly Shooting

The arrest stems from the shooting that occurred on Friday, July 31, in the 200 block of Sherwood Drive.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in progress around 4:21 p.m. Upon arriving, they found 15-year-old Samuel Miley of Lafayette suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Criminal Investigations Division immediately launched a homicide investigation, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as detectives worked to identify those responsible.

Investigation Still Active

Although an arrest has been made, Lafayette Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Investigators have not released additional information about what led to the shooting or whether additional arrests are possible.
