LAFAYETTE, LA – A fatal crash involving five vehicles occurred on Ambassador Caffery Parkway near Vivian Drive on Sunday afternoon, leaving one driver dead and several others injured.

The Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene at approximately 2:08 p.m. According to investigators, a vehicle traveling in the outside southbound lane—identified as Vehicle 1—rear-ended another vehicle, causing it to spin out of control and strike three additional vehicles.

The driver of Vehicle 1 was pronounced dead at the scene. All other drivers and passengers involved in the collision sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Authorities report that all injured individuals are in stable condition.

Police do not believe intoxication played a role in the crash, though standard toxicology tests were administered, and the results are pending. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Following the crash, southbound lanes of Ambassador Caffery Parkway between Chemin Metairie and Bonin Road were temporarily closed as officers investigated the scene. As of late afternoon, all lanes have been reopened to traffic.
