Louisiana Waffle House Locations Add Egg Surcharge as Prices Continue to Rise
Waffle House customers in Louisiana will soon be paying extra for one of their breakfast staples. The 24-7 restaurant chain has announced a temporary $0.50 surcharge per egg, blaming soaring costs that have clearly impacted businesses and households alike.
Signs posted at Waffle House locations confirm the additional charge, which is meant to offset the dramatic rise in egg prices nationwide. The company stated that instead of increasing menu prices across the board, it has opted for a targeted surcharge that will remain in place until market conditions improve.
"As long as they are available, quality, fresh-cracked, Grade A Large eggs will remain a key ingredient in many of our customers' favorite meals," Waffle House said in a press release.
Louisiana families are already feeling the pinch at the grocery store, where egg prices have surged due to ongoing supply chain issues and industry-wide shortages. Some shoppers report paying upwards of $7 per dozen, and now, even a trip to Waffle House for breakfast will come with an extra cost.
Reactions have been mixed among customers on social media. Some joked they'll pay whatever it takes for their go-to Waffle House favorites, like the All-Star Special, while others worry this could make dining out unaffordable for families.
"At what point are we just not able to afford to eat in general?" one customer asked in the comments.
Waffle House has not specified exactly when the surcharge will be lifted but promised customers it is closely monitoring the situation.
