Louisiana's Acadian Ambulance wants the public to know they are 100% operational to respond to emergencies even with the state's severe weather.

Louisiana law enforcement officials issued a Public Service alert Tuesday, January 21, to remind motorists that driving is treacherous and challenging due to the amount of snow that has fallen in the state.

There are a variety of road closures, including sections of interstate, due to the amount of sleet and snow that has accumulated since it began falling just after midnight Tuesday.

According to the statement from Acadian, they will continue to respond with a caveat:

visibility worsens, we will work with local law enforcement and fire agencies to provide escorts for our ambulances so that emergency response can continue.

Acadian Ambulance, like all Louisiana law enforcement, is strongly encouraging people to stay off of the roadways and take any and all safety precautions in order to prevent emergencies. They are asking people to do the following:

  • Avoid Travel unless it is absolutely necessary due to hazardous conditions.
  • Do not use your oven or stove to heat your home.
  • Make sure you have a functioning carbon monoxide detector.
  • Do not expose yourself to freezing temperatures to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.
  • Check on neighbors who may need help.

Our roadways are still treacherous. Temperatures will be in the teens for Wednesday, January 22, overnight.

Make sure that you make safety your first priority when making decisions about what to do and what not to do.
