(KPEL-FM) The "check writers" at the Texas Lottery offices in Austin have been very busy lately. They've written checks to lottery winners from Plano, Lone Tree, Paris, Dallas, Waco, and Weatherford over the past few weeks. Based on Saturday night's Powerball drawing results, it looks as though the "check writers" for the Texas Lottery will be busy again this week.

Why Are So Many Texans Talking About Mega Millions?

Most of the lottery hype this week has been focused on the "new" Mega Millions lottery game. It's not that the game is truly "new" the administrators of the game have just tweaked the way the payouts work and they've also raised the cost of a ticket.

But based on the small sample size of just two drawings, Texas Lottery players and players across the Mega Millions footprint seem to be thrilled with the game's format adjustment. A press release from Mega Millions suggested that the game was paying out about "five times" what it would have paid out under the old drawing format.

What Texas Lottery Games Draw on Saturday Night?

Enough about Friday's drawing, let's talk about Saturday's games. In Texas, the Saturday night lottery focus is usually on Lotto Texas with Extra! , Texas Two-Step, and the multi-state lottery game Powerball.

Lotto Texas with Extra! featured a top prize of $12 million (estimated) on Saturday. There was no jackpot winner but four tickets did earn a payout of over $12,000 in that drawing. Another ten tickets played for Lotto Texas with Extra! also earned prizes of just over $2,000. The jackpot will grow for the game's next play. The estimated top prize will be $12.5 million.

Texas Two-Step may have stolen a little Powerball thunder on Saturday night. That game had a jackpot win of $925,000. A single ticket matched all the numbers needed plus the bonus to earn that jackpot prize.

We confirmed through our sources at the Texas Lottery that the Texas Two-Step winner was sold in Houston, Texas. The winner was purchased at Hardy Shell on the Sam Houston Parkway.  If you played Texas Two-Step on Saturday, by all means, check your tickets.

What Were Saturday's Powerball Numbers?

The Powerball jackpot on Saturday was estimated to be $82 million. Here is how that drawing unfolded for Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Our sources at Powerball confirmed that no tickets sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the game's jackpot prize of $89 million. There were no Match 5 Million winners made during last night's drawing either.

What we can confirm through our sources at the Texas Lottery is this. The largest prize won in Saturday's Powerball was won by a Texas-sold ticket. And that wasn't the only big win the Lone Star Lottery players can hang their hats on.

How Do You Collect Lottery Winnings in Texas?

In most cases, prizes can be claimed at Texas Lottery retailers, unless they are "big wins" and in the case of Saturday's Powerball, there was a confirmed win of $100,000, which was the largest prize generated by Saturday's game. That ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball and the ticket purchaser opted for the Power Play feature of the game.

Another ticket had that same number match scenario, four whites and the Powerball, but they opted to not spend the extra dollar on the Power Play function. The prize amount for that ticket is $50,000. Ten other tickets sold across "Powerball Nation" also earned that amount.
