Motorcyclist Killed in Youngsville Crash; Louisiana Troopers Suspect Speed as a Factor
Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 42-year-old motorcyclist Wednesday morning in Youngsville. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Wednesday (Jun 11) along LA Highway 339 near Simon Road.
According to LSP Troop I, 42-year-old Dustin Ayo of Thibodaux was riding a 2025 Suzuki motorcycle southbound at a high rate of speed when a 2013 Nissan Sentra traveling north attempted to turn left onto Simon Road. The Nissan entered the path of the oncoming motorcycle, leading to a deadly collision.
Ayo, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, who was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Speed Believed to Be a Contributing Factor
Troopers say excessive speed may have played a role in the crash, though the full investigation is still underway. Toxicology samples have been collected from both drivers and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are using this incident to remind all motorists, whether behind the wheel or on two wheels, that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. It also impacts the effectiveness of safety gear like helmets and seatbelts.
Motorcycle Safety Courses Available
The Louisiana State Police also urge motorcycle riders to take advantage of training opportunities offered through the Department of Public Safety. Courses are available for all skill levels and provide riders with the tools to safely operate motorcycles on Louisiana roadways. More information can be found at lsp.org/services/training/motorcycle-safety.
This crash remains under investigation.
