Dear Cajun Fans,

As many of you know, I'm in Las Vegas, returning home tomorrow.  I'll see you Saturday at Cajun Field.

Or will I?

Monday morning, I got up and decided to walk across the street to Denny's for breakfast.  While eating, I thought about it being close to Thanksgiving and I also thought about all of the nasty political rhetoric going on.  I decided to do a random act of kindness for someone.

I bought breakfast for the couple sitting closest to me.  I challenged them to go out and do something nice for someone.

And, you know what?  I felt great the rest of the day.

Now, I didn't tell you all that to make you think I'm a good guy.  I don't do that very often.  I told you that story because of how it made me feel.  I remembered the look on their faces when I told them I was buying breakfast.  I smiled throughout the day.  (The Cajuns' win over Detroit made me smile as well.)

I've been reading all of the stories about the attendance at Cajun Field this past Saturday.  I've seen comments pointing fingers at various groups.  But, blame is irrelevant.

The administration has done everything possible to make Louisiana football affordable for the fan:  Reduced ticket prices, family friendly concessions, student tailgating moved back to the athletic complex...they've done just about all they can, including promoting heavily on social media.

The thing they can't combat is a day's worth of college football, with the Cajuns easily accessible on ESPN+.  And, they can get other games as well...all in the comfort of their home.

And, today, in our age of entitlement, we feel entitled to lower prices, even to the point where we think we should get for free what everyone else pays for.  I'm talking specifically about the ten dollar parking fee.  It's kept those away who feel entitled to free because they can't park within the fences at Cajun Field, something for which fans pay hundreds of dollars.

That's who we are now, folks.

So, with the Cajuns on the verge of their first ten win season in history, another division title and berth in the Sun Belt Championships and a bowl bid in hand, are you going or are you sitting at home?

After all, you are entitled to sit at home.

There's that word again.

My charge to all of you is this.  How about on Saturday you make the Cajuns a priority?  Now, I know many of you are going over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house.  But, if you're hosting, why not treat the family to Ragin' Cajuns' football?  It's not like tickets are expensive.

Or, just decide instead of having friends over to watch the game, gather the gang and come to the game instead.  You'll realize what you've been missing by seeing it live.

Now, let's go back to breakfast.  Doing something nice for someone.  Putting the other person first.  In this case, how about doing something for Alex Allen, Stevie Artigue, Jacques Boudreaux, Ja'Marcus Bradley, Alonzo Brown, Raymond Calais, Kevin Dotson, Quentin Gibson, Kamar Greenhouse, Bennie Higgins, Robert Hunt, Bam Jackson, Michael Jacquet, Aston Johnson, Seth Kootsouradis, Terik Miller, Nick Ralston, Rico Robinson, Chandler Wachholtz and Deuce Wallace?

Those are your Cajun Seniors.  Most of them have spent four or five years with this program, helping and leading the Cajuns to this historic moment.  Some of them came to UL without a scholarship and earned one.  Some are still working for free.

These are the guys who have put in the most sweat equity to help make the program on the verge of breaking into the Top 25.

How about you show THEM some thanks during this season and honor them in their final regular season game at Cajun Field?

Take it from someone who recently found out.  There's an awful lot of joy available when you don't make it all about you.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless.

Jay
