Lafayette Board Seeks To Have Cooper Hearing

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The Lafayette Parish School Board may have a disciplinary hearing for Superintendent Pat Cooper on Nov. 5, one day after the board elections.

The board had originally scheduled the hearing for Oct. 14. However, it was canceled after Cooper filed a civil lawsuit last week seeking to dismiss Board President Hunter Beasley and board members Mark Babineaux and Tehmi Chassion from voting in any proceedings.

A district judge will hear Cooper's case on Thursday.

If and when a disciplinary hearing takes place, The Advertiser reports the board is expected to address five charges against Cooper resulting from a three-month, board-ordered investigation. Those charges relate to Cooper's handling of personnel and budgetary matters, as well as a negative evaluation he received from a majority of the board this summer.
