A Lafayette police officer is dead following a shooting at a convenience store in the Hub City.

According to Master Trooper Brooks David with Louisiana State Police the call came in around 10pm from a store at the corner of Moss Street and Van Buren Drive. The call was a report of a battery and shots fired.

Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly opened fire, leading to a gunfire exchange. Two others were also shot in the incident. Those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect fled on foot following the shooting but police caught him shortly after and he was taken into custody.

The identity of the officer who died or the name of the suspect have not been disclosed yet.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be made available at a later time.
