Lafayette State Senator Gerald Boudreaux has been elected as the new Louisiana State Senate Democratic Caucus.

Boudreaux, who represents parts of Lafayette, St. Landry and St. Martin Parishes, will be taking the place of Troy Carter. Carter recently won a special election to the District 2 2 Congressional seat representing Louisiana.

Boudreaux says he is very humbled to be chosen to fill this important seat. He adds,

I will strive to ensure our members have the tools they need to succeed in pushing our priorities forward while working towards consensus across party lines for the betterment of our state and our communities.

He received much praise from Congressman-elect Carter. The new U.S House of Representative from New Orleans says that Boudreaux will be perfect for this position because he has decades of service to the public. He believes Boudreaux will continue to aid in the continual betterment of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

Boudreaux also received high praise from Republican State Senate President Page Cortez of Lafayette. He says,

  • Senator Boudreaux is a man of great integrity, honor, and leadership. His passion for politics coupled with his love for those he represents will serve him well in this new capacity. I wish him great success and look forward to working with him.

Before, and then after his election to the Louisiana State Senate, Boudreaux served as the Director of Lafayette's Department of Parks and Recreation for more than four decades.

Senator Boudreaux serves in a variety capacities in the Louisiana Senate including the following:

  • Chairman of the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans' Affairs
  • Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Municipal Affairs
