Scott Police say they started chasing a driver who was leaving the parking lot of a Family Dollar Store when the man refused to stop and sped away.

Scott Police were called out to the store in the 5600 block of Cameron Street yesterday just after 2 o'clock in the afternoon after a caller said they saw 49-year-old Gregory Thibodeaux of Lake Charles taking things out of packages and hiding those things in his clothes.

Officers tried to get Thibodeaux to stop his car in the parking lot, but he didn't comply.

Instead, Thibodeaux sped away at a high rate of speed through the city of Scott, driving through ditches, and he eventually crashed his car in the parking lot of a convenience store in Carencro.

Thibodeaux was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of theft, aggravated assault and aggravated flight from a police officer.
