LSU’s Walker to Miss 2018 Season
LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri already knew he'd have to replace two of his three weekend starters for the 2018 season.
Now, he has to replace the third.
Right hander Eric Walker, who excelled for the Tigers as their #3 starter during his freshman season, has been diagnosed with a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament and will have Tommy John surgery next Wednesday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Keith Meister, the head team physician of the Texas Rangers.
Walker pitched the deciding game at the Baton Rouge Regional, allowing just six hits in eight innings as the Tigers shut out Rice. He did not pitch in the Super Regional against Mississippi State. He got the start in the Tigers' second game in the College World Series against Oregon State, but had two leave after two innings.
Walker finished the season with an 8-2 record and a 3.48 ERA, allowing 83 hits in 95.2 innings. He walked 23 and struck out 78.
