Man Charged After Passenger Dies Following Vehicle Crash

Last Thursday night, the passenger in a vehicle that was fleeing police was seriously injured, and now has died from her injuries.

Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says the passenger, 31-year-old Ashley Sonnier of Crowley died as a result of the crash last week.

Deputies say that the driver, who was fleeing from police at the time of the crash, has now been identified at 23-year-old Dustin Magnon of Rayne.

Gibson says Magnon was wanted on multiple charges, and when he was seen near the Walmart on Oddfellows Road, deputies started pursuing him.

Crowley Police were coming to the area via Sixth Street were they saw Magnon's vehicle making a wide turn. The man ended up trying to run into the officer's car, but went across Pakerson Avenue, and the car flipped over.

Gibson says Magnon's outstanding warrants that he was being sought on last week were the following:

• One count of Attempted Second Degree Murder
• Eleven counts of Simple Burglary
• Two counts of Attempted Simple Burglary
• One count of Unauthorized Use Of a Moveable
• One count of being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
• Two Counts of Misdemeanor Theft

Following last week's crash, Magnon has now officially been charged with the following:

• One count of Manslaughter
• One court of Aggravated Flight From an Officer
• One count of being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
